HOMEGROWN HONEYMOONS

Our top five recommendations for your homegrown honeymoon

With everything that 2020 has thrown at us we have learnt to look for the silver linings. Our silver lining is the beautiful Aotearoa, right on our doorstep. We have the opportunity to make the most of travelling around our own country. New Zealand has so much to offer, ultimately making it the perfect minimoon or honeymoon destination. There are some incredible places to visit whether you prefer to travel via cosy campervan or in ultimate luxury.

Number one: PurePods

If you want to indulge in an unforgettable New Zealand experience, staying in a PurePod might just be the perfect place for you. PurePods have 6 different South Island locations, many surrounded by wineries and all delivering exceptional views. As the sun rises you can open the doors and let nature in. Then, come sunset, prepare for an evening soaking up the milky way. PurePods cost $590 per night and you can either bring your own supplies or pre-order a dinner and breakfast package food package.

Number Two: Millbrook Resort

If you would like more of an all-inclusive style break then Millbrook Resort in Queenstown is our pick for you. We found Millbrook to be such a tranquil experience from the moment we arrived. It’s a lifestyle resort with something for everyone. Millbrook offer accommodation in beautifully designed studios, suites and retreats from $250 per night. They have plenty of experiences available and, from experience, we can tell you that the spa and hot pools are a slice of heaven. For the more active, there is a golf course, tennis and bike hire.

Number Three: Canopy Camping

Perhaps you have always wanted to have a glamping experience? In that case, Canopy Camping is the dream escape in New Zealand. With our safe and stunning countryside, we think there’s no better place to glamp. For between $220-$390 per night you will arrive to an established luxury canvas tent in a unique and secluded location. Our personal top picks are the locations with outdoor baths or hot tubs to sit in with a wine in hand, staring at the stars. With over 70 places to choose from, you will be sure to find the one for you.

Number Four: Centre Hill Cottage

If you are looking for something a world away from today then Centre Hill Cottage luxury organic farm retreat is a beautiful spot in Pleasant Point. It’s truly the perfect little place to switch off and reflect on your big day. A highlight of our stay was the delicious home-made breakfast and the hamper with wine on arrival (let’s not forget the outdoor bathtub). You can book this quaint spot for $250-$350 per night.

Number five: QuirkY Campers

Something that’s high on our bucket list is to travel around Northland in a campervan. We love Quirky Campers as they are all so different and you can even BYO pooch (huge selling point). There are a range of bespoke options, some of them even have log burners for those cooler New Zealand evenings. Prices range from $94 to $158 per night. If you’re seeking a wild and off-the- beaten track adventure then go and hire this one-of-a-kind camper.

All of these places have something truly magical to offer. You really can’t go wrong. It’s about figuring out what you’re looking for and what suits you as a couple. “You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so.. get on your way!”.
